ABOUT SKECHERS PERFORMANCE CHENNAI MARATHON 2019

The 7th Edition of Chennai Marathon, Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2019 (Previously Known as, The Wipro Chennai Marathon) is the largest sporting event in Chennai. It is Organized by Chennai Runners, a not-for-profit organization run by passionate runner-volunteers since 2006. It is one of the few running events in the country that is entirely organized by the running community.

Originally started as the ECR Run, it was a simple affair. Participants would begin from a resort on East Coast Road (ECR) and run down 5 or 10 km, turn back and then have breakfast together at the resort and that was all. There were no more than 25 runners on the first ECR run and contributions were used to cover breakfast at the resort. The quarterly ECR Run transformed into an annual signature event in 2010.

The Chennai Marathon is now the country’s second largest marathon after Mumbai and the largest sporting event in Chennai. There were three race categories, the 10Km, the Half Marathon (21.097 Km) and Full Marathon (42.195 Km) till the last edition. We are proud to introduce a new distance/category Perfect 20 Miler (32.186 Km) from this edition. The Event will be held on the first Sunday in January every year, the marathon route covers some of Chennai’s historic landmarks.
