ALL INDIA CIVIL SERVICES BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FOR MEN – 2018 19
SPORTS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF TAMIL NADU.
All India Civil Services Basketball Tournament for Men 2018 -19 has
inaugurated by Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu
Thiru. Chandra Sekhar Sakhamuri, I.A.S. at Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai
on today (25.01.2019).
Member Secretary, Thiru. Chandra Sekhar Sakhamuri, I.A.S. hosting
the SDAT flag and lighting the Kuthuvilakku and then accepting the salute
from all state teams.
In his special address, Respected Representatives from Central Services
Sports & Cultural Board, and dignitaries on dias, today I feel very privileged and
honoured to stand here in front of you for inviting the participants, coaches,
managers, technical officials from all the States, UTs and Regional Sports
Boards,
I am very happy to inform you that the Central Civil Services Sports and
Cultural Board, New Delhi has given an opportunity to Tamil Nadu to host the
All India Civil Services Basketball tournament for Men-2018-19 in Chennai.
The Basketball competitions will be conducted at Nehru Indoor Stadium,
Chennai from 25.01.2019 to 28.01.2019.
I am proud to state that 22 State Teams consisting of 264 Men
representing respective Regional Sports Boards and the State Governments
including 44 Coaches and Team Managers from all over India have assembled
here for this AICS Basketball Tournament.
The participants of this Tournament who are the bonafide civil servants
of the Centre & States would have tirelessly worked hard throughout the year.
Have a nice opportunity to maintain physical fitness and enjoy Basketball game.
A sound mind is a sound body. In order to keep the Civil Servants healthy and
maintain good health, the Government gives the unique opportunity of playing
the game in the right spirit. With this aim, all the participants are motivated for
taking part in the game.

The Government of Tamil Nadu is showing keen interest in the
development of Sports and Games in the State.
In order to encourage the
sports and develop a competitive environment, the Tamil Nadu Government has
initiated the Chief Minister’s Trophy and released a fund of Rs.8.19 crores for
the conduct of District and State Level competitions for men and women below
21 years of age. Every individual player in the State Winning Team will get a
cash award of Rs.1.00 lakh each which is the highest cash award in India being
given by the State of Tamil Nadu.
I am very happy to state that the Government of Tamil Nadu has recently
honoured the SGFI Medallists of Tamil Nadu with a cash award of Rs.2.00
lakhs, Rs.1.50 lakhs and Rs.1.00 lakh for Gold, Silver and Bronze medal
winners respectively, which no other State has done it ever before!
In order to motivate the young and aspiring students who excel in sports,
the Government of Tamil Nadu has instituted a pioneering scheme of
Champions Development Scheme.
The hierarchy of the Champions
Development Scheme in SDAT is being implemented for junior level
sportspersons and the Mission International Medal Scheme would be a
further step ahead for the promising and talented players of Tamil Nadu
to showcase their talents at the international level before reaching the
scheme of Special Scholarship to the Elite Sportspersons.
It is pertinent to note that the talented and outstanding
sportspersons of the State of Tamil Nadu have bagged medals in the
recently-concluded Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in 2018 and
brought laurels to our State.
The medal winners have also claimed their
stake in receiving High Cash Incentive from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of
Tamil Nadu.
Recently, Khelo India Youth Games-2019 held at Pune,
Maharashtra, our Tamil Nadu 365 players participated and secured 88
Medals in this game. I congratulated all the achievers from Tamil Nadu.
I wish all the players who have come to attend this AICS Basketball
tournament and wish them to enjoy their pleasant time here. I am indeed glad
to invite one and all for the Inaugural function. All the best for the participants.
Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu higher officials and Central
