Skipper H. Prashid Akash’s all-round show (56 not out & two for 25) helped St. Bede’s AIHSS (Chennai) edge out Sri Jayendra Saraswathy Vidyalaya MHSS (Coimbatore) by seven runs and emerge winner of The Muthoot Group Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 championship (final phase) here on Saturday.
Chasing 137, Sri Jayendra began on a shaky note, losing two wickets with just 25 on the board. Opener B. Sachin (57) and R. Rishikesh Trilochan steadied the ship with a 69-run stand for the third wicket. Y.S. Saie Sharan brought St. Bede’s back into the game, dismissing Trilochan. Sachin continued the fight, but the target proved insurmountable once he fell to Prashid in the 19th over.
Earlier, opting to bat, St. Bede’s lost the in-form Vignesh S. Iyer early. M. Mithul Raj, the other opener, and S. Rithik Easwaran put on 35 for the second wicket as St. Bede’s reached 50 in the seventh over.
Sri Jayendra hit back, picking up wickets at regular intervals to reduce its opponent to 90 for six. However, Prashid helped St. Bede’s post 136, a total that proved a match-winning one.
